Warm-up: 500m Row

MetCon – 4 rounds for time:
400m Run
15 Push-ups
15 Pull-ups
15 Sit-ups
15 Air Squats

Wow, look at the number of people choosing to sweat a little at CrossFit Ktown.  Today was a milestone in that we broke a previous record of 22 attendees with a whopping 25.  A pat on the back goes out to all of you.

In attendance today was Michael Cooper, a drop-in from Motor City CrossFit up in Detroit, Michigan.  He was on his way to Chattanooga and only stopped in to Knoxville for a CrossFit work out here at Ktown.  He was a workhorse, and he never stopped cheering on the others in the 3:00 class.  Thanks for coming in Michael; we hope to see you again.

We also had a new guy, Jon Buchanan, swing by for his first ever CrossFit workout.  By the looks of his effort, he will be an animal.  We scaled it back a bit for him, and he absolutely dominated it.  Good work, Jon.

A hearty Ktown welcome to our two newest members: Matt Hinton and Carol Boaz.  Matt just finished a free week and now looks forward to many more grueling 6AM workouts.  Hopefully Mr. Parrot will get back in the gym after his injury and add another warm body to the early crew.  Carol made the big plunge after contemplating the long drive from Seymour.  She realizes elite fitness isn’t easy to attain, so she welcomes the 30 minute drive to CrossFit Ktown for, if I can say so myself, some great coaching.

We had a few other new people checking us out, as well.  Kyle, Zach, Brandon, Surekha, Trey, Brittany, and Emily all came in today looking to get some good quality work done, and they definitely accomplished that goal.

CrossFit Ktown is losing one of its regular Saturday morning crew members in Samantha Radtke.  Samantha will be heading to law school in Florida tomorrow morning.  We all are sad to see you go Sam, good luck and have fun down there!

Lastly, I have to give a shout out to two UT Vols fans who are plying their CrossFit trade down in Florida now among a bunch of Gator fans.  They have been following our daily WODs with much fervor, and we thank them for it.  I hope you guys find a CrossFit gym down there that suits your needs – until then we’ll know you’re doing every workout with us down there.

Tim and Sarah swinging away. Congrats on 6 dead hang pull-ups, Sarah!

Just wanted to take a moment and say thanks for the hospitality earlier today. You, Jessie, and all the others present really made me feel at home. Next time I am passing through I will make it a point to stop in. In the meantime I will put in a good word for KTOWN at every box I hit.

    Warmest regards,

I walked in yesterday thinking the metcon looked easy and that I was going to post a great time. Wrong! The 400m run (up hill) and moving to the blue band on pull ups really kicked my butt. I’m definitely feeling it today, and it feels good. =o)

Sorry I missed the workout. The word from Erin was that it was a good one. Maybe if I ask nicely you guys will let me do yesterdays metcon today???? I hate missing Wednesdays. Here is why I love Crossfit K-town. I woke up this morning after a long hard day at work yesterday and not much sleep at all last night, and today I’m not worried about being tired at work, driving, operating heavy machinery, or just being cranky…I am worried about how this will affect my performance today during my workout….obsessed…I think so.

Hahaha, I think you’ve caught the bug, Ben! Congrats, it doesn’t go away….EVER! James, congrats on the blue band pull ups!!! You’ll be cranking ’em out RX’d in no time at all. Just keep the intensity there, and all the rest will follow!

    @Michael Cooper

Michael it was great to meet you! I’m so glad you stopped in for the 3 o’clock workout at Ktown. I hope the rest of your trip goes well and you can get in more CrossFit workouts at different boxes. Hopefully Ktown showed you some good ole’ southern hospitality!

Kudos on the record breaking crowd! Sometimes I dread coming in but after wards I feel proud to be a part of this team.

  7. Sarah & Tim July 23, 2009 at 6:26 pm

    Coach G,
Thanks for the shout out and for posting the picture of Sarah. You made one little girl down here very excited. We did this workout together, we are usually a day behind the rest of you, it took us right at 23 minutes. It won’t be long and that little girl in the picture will be whipping me on all these workouts. I hope we get a chance to get up to Tenn and meet you all soon.

Thanks for the kind words and for the hospitality, both of which were a pleasant surprise to my day. Being the road warrior that I am, logging approximately a thousand miles every week, and living in southeast Michigan as I do, where smiles and good news are few and far between, you can’t even begin to imagine the power that you hold as an individual. A welcoming hello accompanied by a genuine smile can truly shift the paradigm of the day. Way to represent. Thanks.

p.s. I noticed your mother was pictured in Saturday’s photo, and was happy to see that she was continuing to stay involved.
