Significance of my DD2017 WOD
As a bright-eyed 23 year old Senior Airman, stationed at Little Rock AFB, I finally had the newly found freedom to live off base & get a dog! After visiting a local animal shelter in 2003 Roxanne Dorcas Lane entered my life as a wee little pup. There was an instant connection & I knew this pup would be a great companion. She has been with me through so many ups and downs, different jobs, moves, attempts at college, T1D diagnoses, surgeries, accidents, adventures, etc. She’s actually saved my life more than a few times both physically and otherwise. The only time I ever had to call her out of the road in Arkansas was when I was helping a friend work on his vehicle and we both crawled out to get her. Almost immediately after getting out from underneath the vehicle it fell off the jacks with the rear axle landing exactly where we were both laying, saving us from serious injury or worse.
She has been instrumental in helping create what we now affectionately refer to as #TeamLane, or more specifically the Knoxville Lanes: Samantha, Lilly, Spider-Man (the cat), Roxy & myself. In recent months her declining health at the ripe ole age of 14 has made me realize what a true blessing a good dog can be. Having to pick her up to go for rides or help her up stairs has given us a new appreciation for functional fitness practiced through Crossfit, thus the Keg Lifts & Heavy Hugs/Holds. In her younger days, and ever so often here recently, Roxy has enjoyed chasing and treeing squirrels, thus the Wall Balls. One last thing, Roxy hates when “Roxanne” by the Police comes on the radio & especially when I sing it to her given that she IS NOT named after that song & my singing voice is awful.
Thus I give you my hero WOD, “Roxy”
