Have you had your water today? Recently people (on Paleo and off) have been asking me about better healthy snacks. I have no problem offering up my snack ideas: beef jerky, veggies w/ dressing, quality nuts, avocado, celery w/ almond butter, berries, quality deli meats, etc to name a few. Although, when you get that “snack-y” feeling do you reach for the first food item in site (Paleo or not), because what you should be reaching for is your water bottle.

Many times the brain signals “hungry” when it is really dehydrated and needing water. Food is one of the main sources the body can absorb water from and with the hunger and thirst control centers located next to each other, a thirst signal can be misconstrued as a hungry feeling. If you have had 1 or 2 glasses of water and remain hungry then you actually need food versus water.

Moral of the Story: Next time you feel a hunger symptom coming on, drink water first. Your body will thank me for it.
