CrossFit Ktown’s Community Gardens.
During one of our many excellent conversations, myself, along with Grant Scalf and Doug Coffin had an idea we hope to share with the Ktown family. I know I’m not the only person at the gym with an interest in backyard gardening and amateur farming, and I doubt I’m the only person who noticed that at Ktown we have a lovely lot which with a little bit of work could provide a proverbial paradise of paleo provision. Alliteration aside, what I mean is we have picked a great spot to build a few raised bed gardens right beside the gym, and if there is sufficient interest, we could have them set up within a week or two and we’d have our own community garden.
We can’t do this alone. Any of the following would be helpful to the effort: Persons with at least a passing interest in gardening, people who would be willing to help us clear off some space and build the beds, anyone with gardening tools or materials to help us plant and keep the weeds away once we have some things growing, and finally anyone with the knowledge of how to make and/or access to supplies to make the raised beds and rain barrels which we’ll need to water them.
So here’s my appeal to you. Anyone who would like to be involved with the construction of the gardens, get in contact with myself, Grant or Doug. We’ll put a place to sign-up on one of the boards. After we build it, anyone who is just interested in planting or who has requests or recommendations for crops to plant, contact us and we’ll find a place for you.
Is this one step closer to us building a classless utopia here at Ktown? Maybe.
Is this something that is sure to be fun and further our already awesome sense of community? Definitely.
