Blame It On the Tetons.

Warm-up: 2 Rounds – 20 sec Dead Hang, 10 Leg Swings, 10 Arm Circles; 2 Rounds – 6 KB Snatches, 12 KB Swings, 15 KB Deadlifts (50/35lbs); 2 min Bottom of Squat, External Rotator Shoulder Stretch, Hip Opener

500m Row
5 Rounds –
3! Clean & Jerk AND Snatch (135/95lbs)
2 Rounds of Cindy (5 pull-ups, 10 push-ups, 15 squats)

You ONLY row twice: one time at the beginning and one time at the end (bookends).  Rest 1 minute between rounds (after your second round of Cindy each time).  Do not rest 1 minute after your LAST round of your FINAL Cindy.  Score is total time.

Finisher: Pat yourself on the back for finishing one of Ktown’s 2010 Death Days workouts.  This one is a doozy.

What I am trying to say here is this: with the warmer months comes the possibility of spending more time outdoors.  This is also a good time to try and to learn new sports.

Several Ktowners used the winter months to try a new sport, and we proved to be very successful with it.  The granite was flowing seamlessly across the ice.  Some barked orders while others frantically swept to reduce the friction between the pebbled ice and the Blue Hone granite.  Many ends were played, and many a hog line was violated.  Much fun was had by all during the curling nights (except those who fell – over and over and over).

Now that Old Man Winter has ceded to Father Time’s uninterrupted tick-tock and Virgin Daughter Spring is spreading her wings to fly, it’s time to get outside.  There will be many gym-afforded opportunities for camaraderie and hullabaloo that will include the bouldering (rock climbing) trip to Little Rock City in Chattanooga on March 19th, the 3rd CrossFit Ktown gym hike in the Smokeys (hopefully with mother bear charge included!), and plenty of sand volleyball and hooverball.  But don’t let our poor scheduling and even worse execution stop you!

Get out there and try something new this Spring.  Whether it be a pick-up game of soccer or basketball, some ultimate frisbee in the park, cursing your way through 18 holes of golf, roping up for some sport climbing, trail running, biking, kayaking, or even just not spending Saturday and Sunday at home drinking a case of beer, branch out and try something new.

A wise woman once catechized if I had ever asked the wolf why he cried to the blue corn moon or the grinning bobcat why he grinned.  She went on to query my singing ability with all the voices of the mountain singing backup.   Lastly, she inquired if I had ever painted with all the colors of the wind.  What I think this young woman was trying to do, other than allay insuperable tensions between two very disparate cultures, was get me to understand I needed to experience more in life.

We fail at the limits of our capacity.  That often means you can’t drop under that PR snatch, you bonk 20 minutes in to The CBo, or you just cannot shoot a basketball to save your mother’s life.  So what do we do?  We get out there and work at or near said limit of said capacity.  Go try it!

    Did you notice in the top picture that Grant is making Jessie carry the large backpack and he is carrying nothing!!!!!! Speaking of getting out and doing something, Feb 13th I went kayaking down the Little River out of Townsend for 3 hours. Almost flipped it twice into that really cold river . . . that will get your heart pumping! GET OUT AND DO SOMETHING!
