Got Your Back
This workout is brought to you by Samantha Lane. Here is a note from her:
August 13, 2006, I jumped from a cliff to a rock quarry and broke my back. Among the damage was a compression fracture to the L2 vertebra. This single bone has been both a blessing and curse ever since.
For over 7 years, CFKT has has been a key piece in avoiding back pain. The permanently altered vertebra has also been a great reminder of why many of us come to Crossfit; not to be competitive but to live a healthy life. For this reason, auxiliary work is just as important as the more glamorous stuff and should not be neglected, even during Death Days. It is only through smart, and balanced, daily work that we can enjoy the more fun parts and bigger goals of CrossFit. Furthermore, one of the best things about CrossFit is sharing it. As Helen Keller said, “Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much.” Whether it’s splitting work with someone or yelling words of encouragement, we are better with others.
Therefore, take the first part of this workout seriously as it could highlight some important opportunities for growth, grind through a round for each year that CFKT has been in my life, enjoy two of my favorite movements that I can only do from smart training, and enjoy that you are not doing it alone.
