It’s about that time again…time to announce this month’s Ktown Scholarship winner! We’ve had a few submissions for April so if you nominated someone this month and they did not win, we will consider them for the next month.

I won’t make you wait any longer. Drum roll, please…and this month’s winner is Rachael Oberman! Woohoo, congrats Rachael or DIVA as she is better known. Rachael has been one of our longest members at Ktown. That means she has paid her dues through blood, sweat, and tears and totally deserves this award. She might be nicknamed DIVA and complain every now and then, but don’t be fooled! She is a true-blue CrossFit Ktowner. When “3-2-1-Go” is yelled DIVA transforms into one of the hardest working girls we have, no matter what we throw at her. I can assure you she never quits a MetCon even when she’s beat down and hasn’t slept in days (thank you Boomsday). She has truly pushed herself through some of the hardest workouts CrossFit has to offer, like Murphy, Badger, and recently (as in yesterday) Unbroken.

DIVA works very hard for Ktown in other aspects as well, not just in the MetCon department. If Rachael is at the gym you will find no new person who hasn’t met her. If she doesn’t know someone she will immediately introduce herself, talk about how great CrossFit, and make you feel completely welcome. She’s good like that. DIVA has brought several new members to the gym and helped us keep older ones as well. We coaches always say you all are the glue that holds the gym together and makes Ktown as great as it is, and Rachael really represents this.

I remember one Saturday we had a great deal of new girls at the gym, and I had gone around introducing myself, but of course couldn’t talk to all of them at once. I went into the office to drop off some waivers, walked out seconds later, and saw Rachael had all of them in a circle talking and laughing. This is what I’m talking about with her.

I remember this was the first day Rachael did full depth squats.

At Ktown we like to do fun stuff other than just working out (working out is fun, right?). Rachael has been involved with much of our outside activities. While she is a regular to the Saturday classes, she has also attended both annual Christmas parties, our gym kick-off and football parties, Warrior Dash, Race for the Cure, other 5k events, our movie night with “Every Second Counts” (ask her about that), and has been crucial to getting other members involved in the fun too! We have yet to get her to come on one of our outdoor events, but we are still working on it.

If you didn’t already know Rachael is about to be married to another one of our great members, James. So for April DIVA can keep some money in her pocket and spend it on her wedding, or whatever else she wants, like Coach bags. DIVA, thank you for being such a great member! You are the epitome of a Ktown Scholarship Recipient.

    Oh, I’m so happy Rachael got this!! I may have been one of those she talked into coming back after their first day. It was a cold Saturday, and I thought I was going to die. There were only about 5 of us in there a little over a year ago, but I remember Rachael’s encouragement and the words that had me hooked, “We’re like a family.” We’ve pushed through a lot of workouts together. We help each other out when we run, we have had many a laugh on a Saturday morning and she’s given me tons of outside-the-gym advice as well too. Thanks Rachael, you deserve it!

    This may be one of my favorite CFKT posts of all time. Rachael, I don’t think I even need to tell you that I LOVE YOU! You are so deserving of this recognition and CFKT would NOT be the same without you. Your encouragement and constant smile is so contagious and that is something we all need during MetCons and failed PR attempts. Thank you for being you everyday (well mainly Monday, Wednesday, Friday, & Saturday)!

    Great job honey! I’m so proud of you. I never thought I would get Diva in a Crossfit box but she definitely stepped up to the challenge. From squatting to full depth, to getting her first kipping pull-up, to me lifting her 7′ off the ground she has really accomplished so much at Ktown. Love ya pup, congrats!

    ps. Since you have some extra chedda, i really could use some O-lifting shoes. =o)

    OH MY GOODNESS!!!! Thank you so very much ktown and extended family!!! As much as I appreciate the honor I think everyone deserves this simply for coming to crossfit and accomplishing the hard workouts that we do day in and day out. Like most of you, after a hard day at work, I love coming to ktown and taking out my frustrations during the workout and going home happy as can be. Not to mention how fantastically social ktown is. I have some of the greatest friends ever and we met a ktown. SO…be aware that I will be sure to pay this wonderful honor forward and I can’t wait to see who is next.
    Ps…James b/c you put up with me…I will buy you what ever O-lifting shoes you want.
